The Committee on Ministry (COM) has established the following policy for congregations where there is not a regular pastoral relationship.
Ordinarily, pulpit supply should be selected from the Pulpit Supply List, provided by COM and also available on our website.
Occasionally a congregation may wish to invite someone who is not on our approved list to fill the pulpit for a single event. For example: a community leader, a youth from the church, a member of Presbyterian Women, a missionary traveling in our area, etc. If a church desires to have someone not on the Pulpit Supply List preach more than one Sunday per month, prior approval must be obtained from COM.
Ordinarily no one person will be invited to preach in any pulpit more often than four Sundays in a row, and then not again until at least four Sundays have elapsed. Any churches desiring to have any one person preach more often than this must have prior approval from the Committee on Ministry (which ordinarily meets the second Tuesday of every month) before making such arrangements. These arrangements may take the form of Temporary Supply, Stated Supply, or a long-term relationship with a Commissioned Lay Pastor – all of which require the approval of COM and the Presbytery of Lake Erie.
