This fall we will celebrate the 50th Erie County CROP Hunger Walk. The event will take place on Sunday, September 28th at Presque Isle. It will start and conclude in the Beach 1 parking lot with registration beginning at 1:00 p.m. and the Walk kicking off at 2.
Over the past 49 years the Erie Walk has raised just over $3,000,000 to combat hunger. More than $750,000 of that total has stayed right here in our area, given as local grants to food pantries, Second Harvest, Emmaus Soup Kitchen, the Salvation Army, and a number of other ministries that include a feeding component. The remainder of the funds raised has been sent to Church World Service to support its efforts ‘to build a world where there is enough for all.’
We’re hoping that, in recognition of this special year, every Erie County Presbyterian Church will consider putting together a Walk team, whether it is two or three people or a much larger group. Our goal for this year is $100,000. Your participation would go a long way to helping us reach that lofty target.
Coordinators’ Day will be on Tuesday, August 12, at Glenwood Methodist Church. Churches are encouraged to send one or two representatives to pick up materials anytime between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.
